These days I just

I just don't know what to do with myself. I feel pulled in so many directions. I love my gardening. And painting. I get so bored and feeling bogged down at work, then I get a wild hair that tells me I should teach myself this or that in the times of pure boredom. I've been trying to read more. I don't ever spend enough time with my cats. Or my dad.

I find myself wishing some extremely rich, kind, handsome man would come sweep me off my feet, telling me I only have to work if I want to. And that I can go back to school. And a have room just for my art. That won't mind if I go outside and get all dirty and sweaty planting my garden because I don't want to pay someone else to do it. That might even join me on cool days just to enjoy being outside. I think I'm asking too much, especially when you throw in the version that crops up in my dreams...he's a lot like Colin from Made of Honor....hmmm, yeah that sums it up.

Anyway, since I'm stuck bored at work I don't get to paint but I've been doodling at least.

This is how she started. I think I've decided that should I ever get to paint her she will be called Rebirth of a Goddess. This of course is not what she looks like now. She has progressed much, I think I'm satisfied with it too.
A little initial shading.
Putting on a storm.
Creating the trashing ocean.

I'm getting so much enjoyment out of creating this woman that I think I may frame her detailed sketch and keep it with the painting....should I ever get that far.

As far as reading. I love the Iron Druid Chronicles and will finish them eventually. But, if you like wine or even  just the romanticism involved with wine....you do have options here.... you should read (or WATCH!) A Good Year. The book is every bit as good as the movie, or vice versa rather. They are slightly different on more than a few notes but every bit good stories. I've watched the movie several times, I found it at the local pawn shop that sells DVDs for $2. Then some months later I was in the local library (checking out The Game of Thrones! another good book...that unfortunately with my slow reading and forgetfulness I need to buy so I don't have to worry about returning it late again) and there was a book sale going on. Needless to say on the first cart I approached was this book..A Good Year. I was ecstatic. It was hardcover. And less than a dollar. In all, $3 of well spent money and hours of time enjoying both items.

That covers reading and art. I will have to cover the rest some other time.. I will get into the right mindset for something I find utterly fabulous and I will share it with you soon, there will even be pictures!

The things you forget when you disappear...

This is Mao. He was once a peace offering from a rather poor choice I made once upon a time in my young adult life. I love him dearly even though many days he is mean and trips me and won't let me go to the bathroom because the toilet is HIS throne. Anyway, he's a pain in my butt, but I keep him around so my apartment isn't so empty.

 Anyway, I got my Mao a baby! He was lonely he told me, so he needed a partner in crime for while I'm at work. This is who he ended up with:

This magnificent little fellow we call Atticus. When he joined the family he really wasn't old enough to leave his mommy. If he hadn't though he would be living a sad little life foraging for food in the dangerous outdoors known as Terrible Haute. We made due with his tiny size though. Regular feedings of KMR and Mao watching out like a nervous first time mommy. He even potty trained the little one affectionately known as Tucus. We were told Tucus's birthday is April 16 so maybe now the boys will share a joint birthday party.

For a while Mao absolutely adored Atticus.

This is probably the sweetest picture I will ever get of the two of them...the day they met and Mao assumed the role of big brother.

They were so cute at first. It was the snuggliest most adorable make you gag sweet silly humor I could have asked for...............

Then it was just awkward and silly the way they would act together.

And now big brother is finally fed up with the overly hyper spastic little fireball I stuck him with and sometimes he won't even cuddle unless I'm standing up and pick him up...the only way little Tucus can't make himself involved in the attentions. Oh the jealously Not that either of them are particularly cuddly men. They are silly kids that make me want to pull my hair out but at the end of the day I'm so happy I have them.

Man!

So, it turns out I'm REALLY bad at this. I don't even know where I left you :/ Fail on my part.

I feel like I've been crossing the 7-mile bridge or going through a long tunnel, I'm almost to the end. It takes me somewhere I haven't been but it's BOUND to be better than still being on the bridge or focusing on that annoying little light that gives you hope except that you have to stare at it so long and become unsure how close you really are to it.

I guess really that's what most relationships are. I would like to find one that is more like a nature trail or something like that. Something that has a progression and the scenery always changes to something else new and beautiful that you can stop to appreciate for as long as you like. Something that never become monotonous or old. And though the bugs may be bothersome at times, you know they'll go away and you'll enjoy your surroundings once again.

It will happen, even if it ends up just being a happy relationship on my own.

Other events I may or may not have posted:
I now have TWO paintings hanging in a salon downtown. If I could ever find time to finish a couple others I've been working on for some time I could have more but for now I'll take what I've got :) It makes me excited.
I've also had a semi-successful garden...what the pesky deer haven't mutilated and the weather hasn't wilted.
Home-grown potatoes are some kind of wonderful ALL their own. This year I grew two varieties, your basic buy in bulk at Walmart yellow spud and a PURPLE one called Adirondak Blue. A long time friend invited me over for dinner this week and we put a mix of my potatoes in some green beans and ham. Now a lot of people like to use seasonings to enhance this flavor or that, typically I too am one of those people. I'd like to think it was just the quality of my potatoes, but realistically it could be something to do with the salt cured ham, EVERYTHING had such great flavor I didn't even think about seasoning any of it. The potatoes all had this amazing buttery flavor that went so well with the rest of the dish.
Then we had my tomatoes on the side. Tomatoes are the jewel of my garden. My dad has always gone overboard with them and I seem to have inherited the same love of growing them. This year I grew from seed 4 of my 9+ varieties of tomatoes. Anyone who grows plants from seeds knows how exciting it is, it is even better when that plant produces something useful and delicious. The tomatoes in my garden this year include: Snowberry, Violet Jasper, Green Zebra, Purple Russian, Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Pineapple, Old German, and White Tomesol. There are also eight or nine volunteer plants from last years tomatoes.
Last year our clear favorites for flavor and their unique display were the Green Zebras and the Pineapples. The Green Zebra looks just like the name implies, a light yellowish green base with chartreuse stripes. They have such great flavor and are great to pop in your mouth fresh out of the garden or to decorate a salad, though some of them get big enough you may need to quarter them. The Pineapples are a larger variety of and orange-yellow color with varying shades of orange, pink, or red in stripes that look dripped from the bottom up the tomato. They make beautiful slices or wedges just for eating or they are excellent grilled and paired with a sweet and salty meat such as a pork belly with a glaze.
So far this year, the Violet Jasper is in the lead followed closely by the White Tomesol. These are two that I started from seed so I may be slightly partial, but how can you deny a WHITE tomato being unique? And the Jasper has such a sweet sugary finish that if my plants had done a little better or I had planted more of them, I would just stand in the garden and eat them all before continuing with my work. Not to mention how incredibly pretty the Jasper is. It is such a mix of purple and pink and green and yellow that it looks iridescent, then you throw some faint green zebras stripes on them. Everything about them is enchanting. The White Tomesol is a medium large variety that turns a butter yellow past peak ripeness and has such a mild and easy to enjoy flavor. A thin wedge of Tomesol paired with a half of Jasper would make such a beautiful and fun edible summer garnish.

Obviously I'm rather attached to my garden this year. It seems as if I could go on for hours just about tomatoes and potatoes. Next, year pests and heat waves aside, I will expand my repertoire to include other fruit bearing species as well as a new tomato or two and hopefully even more interesting potatoes!

I'll leave you with a couple pictures of my summer's pride and joy! The first is a fun display (in poor lighting sadly) with Snowberry cherry tomatoes foremost in the presentation with a Pineapple to the upper left and center surrounded to the right by White Tomesols, on the table to the right of the Snowberries are Green Zebras, to the left of the Snowberries is a lone Purple Russian and 2 volunteer tomatoes of unknown orirgin.

If we start in the top right, the pinkish tomatoes are suppose to be my Old Germans (unfortunately I believe they cross bred or were not labeled correctly), clock-wise next is the Snowberry (little pale yellow cherry tomatoes), followed by the Purple Russians (I've struggled with them since the beginning, we will likely part ways after this year), next I believe is the Black Krim (in pictures, looks very similar to the Cherokee Purple), at this point I only had 2 of my favorite White Tomesols<3, the little loner I believe is Cherokee Purple, and framed in the center by all the rest are the Green Zebras.
When I see the Adirondak Blue potatoes I still get little butterflies in my chest at their simple and pretty novelty. In the picture the potatoes surround a row of Snowberries and a row of Green Zebras with what a Cherokee Purple really looks like in the bottom right corner.

Seeds for most of my tomatoes as well as an excellent variety of other heirloom vegetables and flowers can be order from the wonderful folks at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.

OMG my dad is totally awesome!!! :)

Basically what this amounts to is a link tour of photos from the the antique motorcycle Cannonball Run of 2010 as it follows a dear family friend, Dave Kleptz. Dave is a LOONNNGGG time friend of my father's. They met when my dad was 17 and had come to look at one of Dave's dad's cars either to buy or to do work on the apolstery of (that part of the story was lost on me as I was more interested in how this guy I've known for years became friends with my dad). There is a decent age gap for the two, especially at that age. Dave was around 12 when they met the first time. They may not have become friends from the start but my dad shared the same love of cars and motorcycles that the Kleptz family felt so they remained in close contact. Over the years the bond has grown deeper and my dad has had a significant part in a great many Kleptz projects (mainly the motorcycles). Dave's 1915 Harley is the most recent large scale project and has been a great success as only around 10 of 44 antique motorcycles (anything 1916 or earlier was allowed entry) finished the race with top marks and his was one of them. Mostly I don't know what I'm talking about as it pertains to my father and his love of motorcycles so I won't go on about it anymore. I just wanted to share my extreme pride in my father, his friend and this project that has kept them both quite lively for the past year (and some :) )

These photos were taken by Michael Lichter

 The whole gang, pre race.

Dave's bike all ready for the road, thanks to Simsomniac on Photobucket

Ohhhh Dave!! lol Early in the race.

This is probably my favorite picture!

 I seriously don't think this guy could crack me up more.
Helping out the fellows, everybody's a part of the pit crew.
Like this angle, would make kind of a neat painting.

Dave's bike that my dad did some pretty major overhauling on.
Changing a tire.
I just <3 this one for the name, Flying Merkel :)
And this one with the wooden wheels is pretty cool too.
Ridin buddies :)

Pretty awesome guy right there!
This shadow is really neat, it would make a great painting.
At the finish line!!!

enjoyment....inspired by Bitsy

Well, dear Bitsy, I'm sure I've told you before but I must tell you again. I <3 this blog:
Aesthetic Outburst

This post especially made me think of you however:
Wabi-Sabi

And all because she used the word "wonkiness"
:)

Just not feelin it...

~~~I just can't seem to get motivated these days. Screw chilly weather and not having a car!
~~~I feel like an awful mommy. I've given up and I feel like it has to be the right thing, my puppy has got to find a more suitable home. It breaks my heart, but since he killed one of Dad's favorite cats today and not having a car is making it impossible to spend enough time with him either Dad will break both our heads or he has to go. Besides dealing with that, I have poor Mr. Samurai Mao lonely at home because I'm either at work, chasing after the dog, or chasing after the boy so he too is not getting enough attention. I'm thinking about finding him a companion after he gets fixed Thursday. So long as Marky Mark finds a good home, it will be much cheaper having two cats than a rather large dog and a pudgie cat.
~~~I know there are other stories to tell. Like I said. I'm not motivated. Maybe they will be told later on or maybe they will be forgotten except one little line in a rather lame blog post.
~~~I guess there was one up side today though, I had a manager from another store in the mall stop by today and ask me to fill out an application...that's the third time I've been asked to apply at another position in the mall. And Bitsy, I promise one day I will repay your "take ur mind off shady sucky crappy life stuff" post. Sorry this one isn't exactly it. Maybe my next one will just be a bunch of texts I keep because they amuse me.... it will at least get me moving again. That is something to contimplate next time though.

hiatus

One of these days I will come back and do a better blog. My past couple weeks have sucked/made me pretty down. It's homecoming weekend. I'm dreading running into my ex. My boyfriend is being a jerk about it. My dog keeps getting out and is going to get me evicted and the more it happens the more likely it is I will have to find a large dog rescue to take him because I cannot live in a cardboard box and take care of us both and expect to be able to keep my job (you know, smelling like a dirty bum from living in said box).
Key points I should come back to though:
I've had multiple people try to (and some succeed) steal from my store.
I went out with my boyfriend and had a meth addict pull a knife on me.
My once upon a time college is having homecoming this weekend so I shall see my long lost sister.
My boyfriend is mad my ex will be in town and is suppose to bring me things that have been at his mother's.
I got invited to a Colts game on the 10th and I'm really excited because I've never been to an NFL game.

I think that covers most of it...Oh, except for Dad's tomatoes and a possible farming adventure next spring..that is my favorite story I shall have to tell at a later date.....

Til then Au Revoir
